Benefits of a Folding Bed

Whether you need an extra bed for guests or a bed to help you save some room, a folding bed can be a good choice. These beds are just like how they sound; they are able to fold up for easy storage. Since the bed generally takes up the most room in a bedroom, if you already have a small room, it can make it look even smaller. There are many different options that you have when it comes to space-saving beds. Let’s take a look at these folding type beds and see what benefits they have to offer.

The first benefit of folding beds is obviously the ability to fold them up and store them away. This will help free up floor space in your room and will also make your room look a bit bigger as well. You can also get things like futons or airbeds but there are some disadvantages. With a futon, you will normally need some type of platform to place them on. You can place them on the ground but it may not be as comfortable. Plus, in the morning when you get up, you still have to put the futon somewhere and because they bend, they aren’t the easiest thing to carry around. Airbeds are great since you can deflate them but it’s a hassle to have to keep taking the air out and pumping it back in.

Another benefit of a fold up bed is that it has wheels that make them easy to put away. Instead of trying to drag a mattress or futon to the closet, you can just fold them up and easily roll them to their proper storing area. These make them very convenient. Folding guest beds can be stored in a closet or near a wall. When guests come over, you can easily roll it out and unfold the bed for your guests to use.

Now these types of beds do have their own mattress that you will need to use. These beds have two basic parts to them, the folding bed frame and the folding bed mattress. The frame itself is normally made of metal and will have springs as the base. They can also come with a wooden base as well. The mattress is typically a material that will allow them to be flexible enough to fold up. Many of them will be made of thick polyurethane foam. You can buy mattresses for these fold up beds separately if you need to replace them.

There are a couple of disadvantages to using these types of beds though. One is that the spring base that the mattress sits on can be noisy depending on the quality that you buy. These are best used as a secondary bed. Even a slight turning of the body can cause the bed to squeak. Of course, you can get ones that have a wooden base to solve this problem. Also, the mattress itself may not be the most comfortable thing to sleep on. Since it has to be made to fold, it may not give your body the right support. If you have ever slept on a cheap futon bed before, then you know the feeling. However, if you are looking to save room and don’t really mind these things, then a folding bed could be just what you are looking for. They are relatively cheap and can be bought for under $150 depending on the type.
