Carpet Padding – Soften Your Carpet

Carpet padding, or carpet cushion as what other people fondly call them, serves as the main foundation of every carpet installation. It basically helps to improve the efficiency and performance of an ordinary carpet. To put it simply, a carpet pad is basically the pad placed under the carpet. Despite the fact that integrating a pad under your carpet can significantly boost comfort, you should bear in mind that not all offer the same level of comfort. This is because of the simple fact that there are actually many types of carpet pads. Each padding type varies greatly in thickness and density hence why the comfort they provide varies too.

The first type of padding that you might want to check out is the waffle rubber. It is a padding that is usually used today, but is often applied improperly. The padding’s waffle part gives it the thickness which is mostly composed of air. However, despite of that, it is still too soft for plastic baked carpets.

Another type is the padding made of urethane foam. Generally referred to as the prime foam, foam carpet padding might be thick but it is not recommended to be placed in areas receiving heavy traffic. The air under the carpet that causes it to move up and down can break down from too much use. The rebond type, on the other hand, is more often used by floor covering industry. This padding is made from high density foam scraps used in the construction of furniture. It also comes in different densities and thickness. However, its price range varies, depending on the material’s availability.

If you would like a padding that can be used for a longer period of time, and is luxurious at the same time, the slab rubber with a 100 ounce density is the ideal padding for you. Unlike the waffle padding, the slab rubber does not contain huge air ripples. It is actually recommended for areas with high traffic because it can resist crushing and furniture indentation.

Meanwhile, fiber pads are recommended if you want to limit movement on your carpet. Fiber pads can be constructed from synthetic fiber, jute, or recycled textile fiber. These pads are usually used under area rugs, commercial carpets, and berber carpets. As for berber carpets, berber pads are the best type of padding to be used.

But, if you are really looking for the ultimate padding for your carpet, you look into the use of frothed foam padding. This padding is made from super dense urethane. And with its 7/16ths inch thickness, frothed foam padding is exceptionally durable. These pads can be used under any carpet type and can prolong the life of your carpet by lessening furniture indentation. Costing as much as the slab rubber, it can definitely last longer.

With regards to carpet padding prices, their cost varies widely depending on the type, and thickness of the pads. Some are exceptionally expensive but you can also find cheap carpet padding. In buying carpet padding, make sure to take note of its density and thickness since this can significantly influence the padding’s performance. Most importantly, settle for a padding that will utterly complement your carpet while providing utmost comfort!
