Vinyl Shutters

Vinyl shutters are a durable replacement of traditional, decorative wood shutters. Exterior shutters are stationary. They do not function. They can not be used as hurricane shutters. They are for decoration only. One of the easiest ways to add appeal to the exterior of your home is to install vinyl shutters for décor. Exterior vinyl shutters add personality to the outside of your house. They provide detail to windows. They are not identifiable as vinyl from several yards away. They have a wood grain appearance. Many homeowners will stick with traditional wooden shutters because the time era of their home is reflected in the character of the old-fashioned wooden shutters. They are more popular than any other material used in shutters.

These shutters can also be called plastic shutters or vinyl plantation shutters. They were created following vinyl siding in the late 1950’s. They are made by the same manufacturers which make vinyl siding.

Interior vinyl shutters are available as well. They operate the same as regular wooden or metal shutters. They are easy to find and typically are ready for purchase in white or off-white colors. They are durable and nearly water proof. They are cheap and can be made in customized units. They look and feel more like plastic and are not as similar in appearance to wood shutters as their outdoor counterparts. They are hollow and not available in a traditional style. They can be paired with additional curtains or window dressings.

Vinyl window shutters are durable and less likely to corrode than wood shutters. They are designed to last through blaring sunlight and temperature extremes. They don’t need to be replaced nor do they require repainting. A downside to these shutters is that they can not be repainted nor can they be stained. Purchase of vinyl is not recommended if you intend on repainting or staining your shutters in the future to match your home.

Vinyl shutters are more quite affordable since the manufacturing time is shorter than wood. The chance of deterioration is less and the product will not need to be replaced as frequently. Little to no upkeep is required.

Vinyl shutter style varies by manufacturer. Custom vinyl shutters are available in louvered shutters, one to three paneled shutters, louvered / panel combination, board and batten and board and batten arch. Different widths and colors are available and vary per manufacturer. Decorative touches are available such as decorative hinges and S hooks.

Vinyl shutters are available through home discount design stores in common sizes and fabrications for both interior and exterior use. Exterior shutters should be researched through specific vendor in order to find the product you are looking for. For best results, work with a designer or a shutter specialist on your package. You can also find and buy them online as well.
